Day 1- April Fools Day and it did sneak up on us

We woke to rain and an almost ready Airstream. We had attached the VW Touareg the night before and after breakfast we completed the packing. We had discovered one apparently small glitch in the morning check list. The refrigerator and the hot water tank did not want to run on propane. They run on both electric and propane. Propane running is good when we don't have an electric hook up. We thought of stopping by our RV service place but they did not have technicians available so we decided to set out and see if bouncing along the highway would just jolt the propane into action.

Both the Airstream and the car were chock a block full by the time we rolled out at 10:23 am for what was forecast as a 5 to 6 hour drive to Oneanta, New York to spend the night with Sally's brother John and wife Wendy. Sally was at the wheel for the first phase. Our approach is to each drive about two hours.

We headed south and then west across Massachusetts on the lovely Route 2 , winding through the Berkshires. There wasn't much traffic. The Airstream was towing easily. The weather improved. Life was good. Our meandering along Route 2 took longer but seeing the farms and small Berkshire villages made it worthwhile. There wasn't much greening up yet but the river valleys had austere charm.

By the time we arrived in Oneanta it was almost 6pm and had gotten considerably colder. In fact there were snow showers rolling through! No matter, we found a good street parking spot for the rig and started to button up for the night, only to find we had no battery power, none. This made it impossible to even test the propane or raise and lower the hydraulic jack that allows unhooking.

Early this morning we called the one RV service place in Oneanta but their one mechanic was not there on this Saturday- but he may be in later- stay tuned for more on this first challenge . Meanwhile we are sitting down to bacon and eggs and enjoying John and Wendy
